To me, one of the most magical moments in a family's journey is the arrival of a new member. It's a moment that deserves to be captured, starting from the time the little one is still growing inside. Then, when the baby arrives, with their tiny hands and the new challenges that come—these moments are fleeting, and they grow so fast!

I’m Raquel Pires, a lifestyle photographer with a passion for capturing raw emotions. I’m here to help you create the most beautiful and meaningful memories for your family.

I will create a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere making it a pleasant experience for you and your loved ones, with lots of fun. As a result, you can expect more than beautiful natural pictures, but also a soulful storytelling.

In my editing, I like to deliver a sophisticated and natural colour tone with a discrete fuji film twist, yet I pride myself on these timeless black-and-white shots. Believe me, I know while photographing, before even editing which shots are meant to be in black and white.

My artistic style was developed just after finishing my degrees in Psychology and Publicity, plus plenty of photography courses and workshops with other super-talented artists.

The flow between these subjects works perfectly, once I can easily connect to people's emotions and also be attentive to all the aesthetic details which will make you love your photos.

When should you book it?

Maternity: I recommend reaching out to schedule your session around week 27, so we can plan it according to your needs. Ideally, the session should take place before week 36, when you are still feeling comfortable and not too tired or swollen. However, every woman is different, so let’s connect at week 27, and we’ll go from there.

Newborn: I recommend capturing these moments within the first 15 days, when babies are still very sleepy, and everything feels new for the parents, who often have that beautiful look of love in their eyes. That said, it’s important to listen to your body and emotions—those early days can be challenging. If you're not feeling up to it, don't worry; the first month still carries that special newborn feeling.

First-Year Milestones: I recommend documenting your baby’s growth every 3 months, as this is when you’ll notice significant changes in their behaviour and development.

What to WEAR?

BE YOURSELF, SHOW YOUR PERSONALITY

When we are talking about lifestyle photography we are talking about being real, being ourselves. Most of the couples and new families I photograph are young parents and I incentive them to look cool. 

The most important aspect in my opinion is having a neutral pallet colour that will help harmonise with any background. For instance jeans, white/off-white, brown, creamy, mint, rose, all these dry colours. I would avoid strong colours like red, royal blue, and colourful prints.

Fabrics with natural fibres could be an elegant touch, like pure cotton, linen and silk.

It’s also important the harmony of colours and style between the couple.

To make it simple for the man I suggest a linen shirt, or maybe just a plain cotton T-shirt, with jeans or creamy pants. I would avoid shorts if your wife is wearing a nice dress, but if you decide to do something super casual at the beach, all good it can work!

For the mum-to-be, I recommend having the hair and natural professional make-up done (check it with Bruna Reis, she can help you with that), it’s a special day and you must be glowing!

Another suggestion that really helps is searching for some references on Pinterest or even on my portfolio and making a mood board. Then you search the styles online and when you go shopping you know already the style you looking for. It also helps you get familiar with the poses.

Witch LOCATION?

It is personal, and I recommend you choose a place that once more, represents a bit of your lifestyle and personality. Or some iconic spots to represent the place you are living. Maybe you will prefer it more privete and do it at home, it can be super meaningful!

Here some suggestions: Opera house and Royal Botanic Gardens is a classic, The Rocks for some urban vibes, Newtown for some cool vibes. Any beach in Australia is beautiful I personally like: Milk Beach, Shark Beach, Bondi, Tamarama and Bronte, Gordons and Coogee, Curl Curl Beach.

Centenial park for something more bush, forest, greenery vibes. You can even hide an airbnb! The possibilities are infinite but don’t worry I can help you with that!

NewBorn LIFESTYLE

A Newborn Lifestyle Session, unlike traditional newborn sessions, takes place in the comfort of your home. This creates a relaxed and comfortable environment for both the baby and the new parents, who are still adjusting to their new routines.

This type of session prioritizes using elements that are part of your family’s story. All props are items that belong to you, making the session more personal. Expect plenty of parent-and-baby shots, detailed close-ups, and even a few adorable naked baby photos—if you’d like. I also think it’s lovely to include everyday moments like bath time or breastfeeding. And if you have a pet, we can definitely feature your fur baby in the photoshoot as well.

Having started my career as a traditional newborn photographer, you can trust that I know how to gently pose your baby for those cute, peaceful sleeping shots.

I recommend scheduling the session within the first 15 days when newborns tend to sleep deeply. However, if you’re not feeling your best, the first month is still considered a perfect time for newborn photography.

Just keep in mind not to book the session right after your baby’s vaccinations, as they may feel a bit uncomfortable. Also, the foods you eat while breastfeeding can affect your baby’s comfort. You can find some helpful tips in this article: What Foods Help to Avoid Gas When Breastfeeding.

And don’t worry—my priority is always respecting your baby’s time and making sure everyone feels at ease throughout the session!
