Clare & Sebastian

A Fashion-Forward Autumn Wedding in Sydney

Just like their love story, which began in the historic halls of The University of Sydney, Clare and Sebastian’s wedding could only be timeless — yet entirely their own. Every element of their day spoke of refinement. From ceremony to reception, from sculptural florals to fashion-forward silhouettes, every detail reflected their quiet elegance. Nothing was overdone. Nothing tried too hard. This wasn’t a wedding crafted to impress — it was a day curated with intention.

After a proposal at Balmoral Beach, their story found its next chapter in a wedding that blended history and modernity, understated luxury and personal meaning — all bathed in the soft, golden light of Sydney’s autumn.

Naturally, a wedding like Clare and Sebastian’s didn’t go unnoticed. Their celebration was featured in the Lifestyle section of The Sunday Telegraph — a coveted space where couples from Sydney’s upper circles quietly hope to see their love stories told. Because when authenticity meets elegance, people notice.

The Groom’s Morning at The Old Clare Hotel

Sebastian’s morning set the tone: classic, masculine, quietly luxurious. In the textured interiors of The Old Clare Hotel, he shared a slow morning with his closest friends. Between custom cufflinks and quiet conversations, a glass of Shene Estate whisky was poured — a Tasmanian spirit known for its craft and elegance. No unnecessary fuss. Just presence. It was the kind of morning that doesn’t need to be staged — and that’s precisely why it felt so real.

The Bride’s Morning | Paramount House Hotel

At Paramount House Hotel, Clare’s morning unfolded like a modern editorial. Soft light, minimal surroundings, and her gown — a sculptural creation by Rachel Gilbert. Elegant, stylish, and anything but obvious. The dress hung gracefully against an artwork by Ellen Virgona, framing a scene that felt less bridal and more like an ode to powerful, contemporary femininity.

At her feet, a pair of Filippo Raphael for Edward Meller minimalistic shoes. Metallic. Sculptural. A quiet nod to Australian craftsmanship and understated design — a choice that felt deliberate, not decorative.

And then, the final detail: a miniature glass bottle of Penhaligon’s Elisabethan Rose. A fragrance as refined as her entire look. Not chosen to announce her arrival, but to linger — soft, rose-infused, and quietly luxurious. As the saying goes, the finest perfumes come in the smallest bottles — and Clare’s scent was no exception. A memory, reserved for those who stood close enough. Because true elegance isn’t loud. It lingers.

Getting ready wasn’t just a moment. It was a scene. Surrounded by her bridesmaids in matching brown satin, glasses of champagne in hand, Clare’s elegance felt effortless. A bride who carries fashion not as a statement, but as second nature.

The Historic Christ Church St Laurence

Clare arrived in a vintage Rolls Royce, because of course she did. Timeless, refined, but never obvious.

The ceremony unfolded at the historic Christ Church St Laurence, where stained-glass windows and gothic architecture embraced the couple as they exchanged vows. Sebastian’s face said it all as Clare walked down the aisle — moments like that don’t need captions.

Rain & The Gift of Intimacy, the Couple Photos at The Old Clare Hotel

When the autumn rain began to fall, plans changed — but for the better. Instead of harbour backdrops, we returned to the warm interiors of The Old Clare Hotel, where wood textures, dim light, and vintage detailing created a moody, intimate setting for their portraits.

There’s something about rain that slows the day down. Their couple photos felt honest, cinematic, and timeless. Luxury, without effort.

the reception was at the iconic Ripples Chowder Bay

As night fell, the celebration moved to Ripples Chowder Bay, where Sydney Harbour provided the perfect understated backdrop. A waterfront venue with one of the most prestigious menu of the modern Australian cuisine and Mediterranean influences. A wedding that felt like an elegant dinner party — elevated, yet intimate.

Clare changed into her second look — a softer, fashion-forward silhouette, perfect for dancing — while long tables were set with white florals and soft candlelight. Laughter, heartfelt speeches, and music filled the air as friends and family celebrated under the autumn sky.

Why This Wedding Felt so unique?

As a photographer, I’m always looking for the balance between beauty and authenticity. Clare and Sebastian’s wedding didn’t try to be grand — it simply was. Sophisticated in every detail, but personal in every moment.

If you’re dreaming of a wedding where fashion meets soul, where every detail reflects who you are (without ever needing to explain it), I’d love to tell your story.
